Three things that don’t mix well are raw pancake batter, a food thief dog, and trying to get to work.

6:50 this morning I was mixing pancake batter for the kids breakfast and while the griddle was heating up I went across the kitchen to put some food down for Scout.  As I am scooping the food I hear his tags hit the counter, yes, it’s a distinct sound, and turn around just in time to see him pull the wire wisk out of the bowl of batter and tip the bowl in the process.  Raw batter poured over the counter onto the floor and of course onto, and I use the term loosely today, the dog.  It is dripping down the cupboards, pooling on the counter and floor, getting stuck in the fur of a four legged food thief and he is right there licking it up like it’s the nectar of the gods.

Bad way to start a Friday.  Sorry no pictures just use your imagination.

Sometimes you just need to laugh.

I was going for a walk the other night and thought I would try a harness instead of the regular collar to see how Scout will walk. We never made it out of the door. He just grabbed the neck loop and put it so far back in his mouth it reminded me of a horses bridle. He was just dancing around the kitchen trying to pull it off and just getting it wedged deeper in his jaw. It was too big for him as it was still sized for Taz and next time I try it I will make it smaller before even getting close to him.

It’s been a while since writing but today finally at just 5 months we are running up and down the inside stairs. Now the kids need too keep their toys off the floor and put away. Barbies must be made of flavored plastic because he goes right for them. Hopefully he will be doing the outside stairs soon 😉

Today, Sunday September 10, 2006 at 1:50pm, Dr. Jon Spelke helped us say goodbye to Taz. She had gotten weaker over the last few days and she told us in her own special way that she was ready today. She had a good time playing with Scout last night and running around with a stuffed pelican in her mouth when we got home. It’s going to be quiet around here again.

Rest in Peace Taz we love you!

We have discovered that a tired Aussie has happier owners! Friday night we rented a couple of movies and we walked to Bart and Greg’s DVD store to pick up movies. It’s just shy of 2 miles round trip and about 45-60 minutes of walking with the kids. So we brought Scout along. We worked on loose leash walking and paying attention to us. He did really good. On the walk home the kids took turns walking him for about a block and they did a good job with him. Anyway he rested during the movie, Inside Man, so we could actually watch in peace.

Then Saturday night the kids and Michele watched RV while I took Scout on another 2 mile walk in hopes that he would settle again so we could watch another movie, this time Take the Lead, which was pretty good.  Unfortunately Scout didn’t settle down too well.  He did eventually go into his kennel and go to sleep so we could watch the movie.

Right now he is trying to entice Taz to play and she really wants to but keep hacking and coughing when he pulls on her. They are starting to settle finally but Emma has a friend coming over.  I’ll give him a while to see what happens, hopefully he stays settled.
