We went out for Thanksgiving last night, but had we stayed home this would have been the scene.  A dog that can turn on the drool faucets, both sides full force.  It’s a pretty common occurance, although some meals really draw it out. :)

Happy Thanksgiving from us to you!

What does a dog with no tail chase? Well, when you loosen his collar and his tags hang a little lower you have your answer. :)

Here is a before and after picture of what I found today when I got home:

This was a Twist ‘n Treat from Busy Buddies with the emphasis on was. I have left this toy for Scout many times in his kennel when going to work but today I got home to the pieces everywhere. They are all pretty small so hopefully if he did swallow any they will pass with out any trouble. Keep your fingers crossed!

Sunday morning Zach and I took Scout to Bowdoin College to play. The Bowdoin Athletic Department is very nice to let people bring their dogs to play on the fields with the obvious rules to respect the area and clean up after your dog. Boy did he have a good time. There were about 25 dogs there of all breeds from small terriers to a St. Bernard puppy (a funny looking thing). It took about 5-10 minutes for Scout to be “accepted” into the group, they all came up and checked him out, everyone was friendly and once the dogs took care of their business he started to play full force. Of course this is a field that is about 3 soccer fields in size and there is one 6 foot mud puddle, guess who found the puddle? Yep, Scout. The went over to that side of the field to see what some of the dogs were doing, there was a deflated basketball in the puddle and Scout just jumped in to rescue it. He laid down and came out muddy from his belly down. There was another larger mix breed that decided to go for a roll in the puddle but otherwise there were only two dirty dogs. most dried off playing but he did keep chasing that mix when ever it would have the basketball. Scout was somewhat slower than him so never really did catch him on his own, only when the other wanted to be caught. We stayed for about a half an hour and that was plenty for Scout. He came home and proceeded to sleep most of the afternoon. :)

It was only $14.95 from Planet Dog but the Orbee ball is a great bargin. Just watch what a six month old can do to entertain himself.

I’m not sure if this is Scout’s passage into official “dogdom” or not.  We were walking through the woods next to the house today and he was checking everything out like usual.  The neighbor’s black lab, Potter, uses these woods as well and Scout must have thought the smell was right for marking so here he goes…lifts up that rear left leg…starts to pee…and tips right over…I  wish I had a video camera at that moment.  The look on his face was priceless as he was laying on the ground.  He hopped up walked a few steps and squatted like he always has done.  We’ll see what tomorrow brings…

How many times do you tell the kids that they need to pick up the toys in the basement?  I guess one more since Max Steele is going to need to have his left food amputated and will be come the new six million dollar man if I ever finish that correspondence course on micro robotics.

Scout also likes to play caveman and drag Barbie around by the hair. There must be something about the taste of polyester hair that is appealing to a six month old dog? Go figure. I think it is the thrill of the hunt no matter where I put the Barbie she is found and carried around by the hair.

Scout just loved the pile of leaves that Zach and Emma raked up on Saturday. He just had a great time jumping in and out of the pile and the kids loved to bury him under the pile.

It was beautiful yesterday so I had Scout outside and we were playing frisbee for a while. I went inside and came back about 10 minutes later and this is what I found. This is not the first time he has dug in the back yard. In fact it’s not the first time he has dug in that exact spot. I had just filled it in last week before going out of town so that when Michele’s mother stayed at the house with the kids, dogs, and birds she wouldn’t have a chance of stepping in the hole and getting hurt. I guess once some boundaries were set she and Scout got along pretty well, of course he did get her muffin one morning and spent a bit of time in his kennel. She has a long hair dachshund and Scout is one of the biggest dogs she has spent time with in a long time. A puppy with energy and brains did seem to get the better of her at times.

After digging his hole he spent some time in jail on the deck, none to happy I might add.

Will he be rehabilitated?

Will anyone bail him out?

Will he learn to sing the blues?

Stay tuned…
